These are more commonly known as tickets.  If the infraction involves a vehicle it can be either a moving violation or a “fix-it ticket”.  It is more serious to have a moving violation because it will often require you to go to court if you wish to contest the matter and it can add points onto your driving record. A common mistake that driver’s make is to drive with their high beams on when one of the regular headlights is burned out.  A headlight out is a fix-it ticket and carries a nominal fee versus driving with high beams on is a moving violation and can put a point on your driving record.  An officer and other drivers are more at risk when you drive with high beams on.  Infractions don’t impose any jail time but only a fine.

The fines can be extremely high, for a list of the most current fines for various infractions click here.
