Do I have to go to court?

For a misdemeanor DUI that answer is NO.  An attorney can appear on your behalf if retained.  Don’t assume that if you don’t show up a public defender will substitute in and arraign you.  A warrant will be issued for your arrest.  Whenever you see a celebrity appear in court for a misdemeanor charge prior to a preliminary hearing, it is most likely a publicity stunt.  Don’t be fooled.  You can have almost all of this done entirely over the phone with your attorney.  You have a job and so do I.  Your job is to be discreet and keep working to take care of your family.  The world does not need to know about your mistake.
